Description

Description

A Beam Detector, also known as an Optical Beam Smoke Detector, is a specialized fire detection device designed for large open areas where traditional point-type smoke detectors may not be effective. It operates using an infrared light beam transmitted from a sender unit to a receiver unit (or a reflector). Under normal conditions, the beam remains uninterrupted; however, when smoke enters the path of the beam, it reduces the signal strength, triggering an alarm condition.

Beam detectors are ideal for environments such as warehouses, factories, shopping malls, airports, atriums, and high-ceiling buildings where wide coverage is required. They can monitor large distances—typically up to 100 meters—making them a cost-effective solution by reducing the number of detectors needed in expansive spaces.

These detectors can be configured as either end-to-end systems (separate transmitter and receiver) or reflective systems (transmitter/receiver with a reflector). Many modern beam detectors include features such as automatic alignment, dust compensation, and adjustable sensitivity to minimize false alarms and ensure reliable performance in challenging environments.

Compatible with both conventional and addressable fire alarm systems, beam detectors provide efficient and early smoke detection over large areas. Their robust design, long-range capability, and advanced sensing technology make them an essential component in modern fire safety systems for large infrastructures.
